The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could be able to read them. Many words were substituted with foreign words. For instance dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was being used.

Origins

The early history of Toto, which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's economic expansion. In the beginning of its existence, the company made goods to meet demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding overseas in the late 1980s to profit from new markets and sales opportunities. It established the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy increased sales and increased the company's global market share.

In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus to research and development of water-related household appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better meet the needs of customers and boost profits. The company implemented a just-in-time method of managing supply chains and applied the same methodology for its sales process. This resulted in a higher degree of customer satisfaction.

Toto continues to invent toilet technology. The latest toilet, for instance is equipped with a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green purchasing policy. Apart from toilets, Toto produces bathtubs and faucets, as well as hand dryers that are more energy efficient than conventional models.

The first museum of the company was opened in the year 2015, and it has exhibitions on Toto's most iconic products and their development and its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the historical background of plumbing and products like bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum even has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

Before forming Toto members of the group did session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an ode to the traditional sextet style and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. The edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work was more precise, sharper and less cloying than earlier recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded their Amsterdam live show that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The studio album came out shortly after, and the group went on a long-distance tour to promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to discover songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was completed in 2001 and released as a double album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album without one single track titled "A". The album also included a previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was an uncommercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which limited his singing ability. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened a meeting in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of restructuring the band. This lineup, minus Howe who was busy with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
